Smoke Detectors | Print |

Picture this … you’ve had a long day at work … and you’ve just finished putting the kids to bed after another full night of activities. You’re exhausted.

After dozing off in front of the television, you drag yourself into bed and pass out for the evening. Finally, you can sleep in peace.

But wait … did you forget something?

If your house caught fire in the middle of the night, who would come to your rescue?

Who would wake you up? How about the kids?

Chances are that nobody will be around at that critical moment to help you and your family.

Seems pretty obvious, but is there any question of the life saving value of smoke detectors?

Then why do so many homes, either have too few smoke detectors, or none at all?

What about those homes, that have smoke detectors on every floor, properly positioned throughout the house … but they do not work. Their batteries have either been disconnected, are dead or were just never installed.

The bottom line is this … stop gambling with your family’s lives.

Install fully functional smoke detectors throughout your house. Then take your household calendar, and make a note in every month, with reference to your smoke detectors functionality.

You only need to spend a few minutes each month to check that each and every smoke detector is working properly.

By the way, did you know that in the Province of Ontario, it is now law? The law states that you must have sufficient and fully functional smokes detectors in your house.

We’ve included some background information from the Province of Ontario, a note from the Office of the Fire Marshall and a letter from the Athens Fire Department Fire Chief.

For additional information on smoke detectors, visit Health Canada’s site. You can also print a copy of Health Canada's article on Smoke Detectors

Don’t wait until it’s too late.
