Escape Plan | Print |

We’re not referring to getting away from work … like escaping to some tropical island with sandy beaches, sun, surf and amazing food. But that’s a great thought.

Funny thing though, most of us would rather spend weeks, maybe months planning for that upcoming family trip. The excitement and the anticipation of a well deserved holiday can really get the juices flowing.

But what about … right here at home?

Escape PlanHave you and your family given any thought on how to escape from a fire?

Have you practiced together, choosing alternate routes and a common meeting place?

When was the last time you opened all of your windows? Or maybe you can’t, because there painted or nailed shut.

What about that high security dead bolt on your door … do you need a key on the inside to unlock it?

Speaking of security, do you have bars across your windows? Can you quickly open them from the inside? Try it with your eyes closed tight.

And do you care for an elderly person at home? Is their bedroom located on the ground floor? Who would assist them with their escape from a fire?

Do you have escape ladders from the second floor rooms?

No doubt, there are a lot of things to consider when planning an escape from a fire emergency.

The things is, you can either take the time before a possible fire to plan, practice and survive … or you can be average.

Unfortunately, the average family does not sit with paper and pencil to map out the ultimate escape plan.

Here’s a great set of instructions that you can print, from the “Office of the Fire Marshall” on how to Develop a Home Fire Escape Plan.

Don’t be average … do it today.
