Know Fire
Tom Fenn recently recommended the Know Fire website on Fire Prevention.
Check out their brilliant videos showing the dangers that fire poses.
They also provide a thorough “Home Self-Inspection Checklist” that you can print off.
And it should only take you a few minutes to run through the list. This would be a wise investment of time to secure your family’s safety.

Prevent Home Fires
Did you know that in Ontario, cooking and heating are among the leading causes for starting home fires?
Here are some easy steps to help you prevent home fires:
- stand by your pan - never leave your stove unattended while cooking
- candles are a glowing concern - if you are leaving the room put it out
- time for a check up - have your heating equipment checked by a qualified service technician
- lighters and matches in the hands of children can become deadly weapons - put them out of reach or remove them from house completely
- ensure smoke detectors are tested on a monthly basis and change the batteries annually
- have an escape plan - practice makes perfect, do it while testing smoke detectors
Fire prevention this is year is during the week of October 5 to 11 2008.
Having a working smoke detector and practicing your escape plan are essential toward ensuring everyone gets out safely in case of a fire.
We have smoke detectors that are available and if installation is required we will be there to help you.
